Aces, Umbras, and Monsters — Oh My!

A rumble in the mystical jungle.

“In a world of ancient secrets, spirit companions, and monsters lurking around every corner…” I mean, come on! Are you not already excited?? But it gets better…

Xbox teamed up with Stoic to create an action-packed adventure game and we were all too happy to join in the fun. Inspired by sweeping landscapes and anime adventures, Towerborne combines an action RPG with a side scrolling co-op brawler to make an experience that is both visually stunning and a blast to play.

THE ART OF STORYTELLING

Composing all the major themes and elements of a game in a single frame can be challenging, but ultimately we chose to focus on four distinct characters, or “Aces.” Although their identities are not entirely revealed, we’re enticed to join them and their “Umbra,” or spirit companions, on their quest. The namesake tower looms ever present as a beacon of hope in this beautiful, mysterious world that we’re invited not just to play in, but to fight to defend.

NAME & LOGO

We started at square one in coming up with the name for this grand new adventure. And, leaving no stone unturned in this strange, new landscape, we based every concept on the lore of the realm, the tower itself, and, like our heroes, the theme of venturing into the unknown.

As a visual shorthand for the game, we arrived at a classical, condensed typeface — custom cut, of course. But just as wind and the elements have an impact on the seasons of the game, we incorporated subtle aspects of wind shear, wear, and tear to the wordmark itself for extra detail and a connection to the world.
